People can't get enough of the friendship between a 93-year-old widower and his senior cat after learning about their sweet daily routine. A woman named Sarah Annett, 34, has taken to TikTokto share the sweet bond her elderly grandfather, Walter Annett, has with his elderly catAngus, whom he's owned for over 10 years after being gifted him from his previous owners.
Speaking to Newsweek, Sarah explained that Angus first appeared in Walter's and his late wife's house because he was seeking some peace and quiet after living in a loving but chaotic household with young children. Gradually, Angus started visiting Walter more often until he "nearly lived there."
Sarah said that the cat's owners knew he was spending so much time there, and eventually they decided it would be best for Walter to keep Angus. She thought he could give him the life he truly deserved.

When Walter moved to the retirement village, of course he took Angus with him, so they could spend every day together. And now, 10 years after first meeting, the inseparable duo have a sweet daily routine together.
"Every morning my 93-year-old Poppy gets his little cart ready for his daily walk with his elderly cat Angus..." Sarah wrote on the video, as Angus is seen jumping into the cart that Walter has prepared for him.
After Angus makes himself comfortable, Walter walks out of his flat into the corridor, as the first thing they do is to assess the weather to determine the best way to walk, and whether or not they should go outside or not.
After they've decided, they head off! Sarah went on to explain that Angus and Poppy are both well-known in the retirement village and often stop to chat to other residents. When they feel done, they both head back into the building and back into their flat.
"It's their little morning routine that makes their day," Sarah wrote on the video as the inseparable duo was seen walking back to their flat.
She went on to explain in the caption of the video: "Routine and companionship are vital for elderly wellbeing. Daily structure and animal bonds like the one between Poppy and Angus provide purpose, movement, and connection. As we age a loyal pet can be more than company… they become part of the reason we keep going."
Several studies have shown that pets provide essential companionship, a sense of purpose, and routine, which can lead to better mood, sharper cognitive function, and an enhanced overall quality of life for seniors. It can also bring benefits such as improved cardiovascular health, and increased physical activity.
People were quick to comment on the heartwarming video, which has been viewed over 595,000 times, as many expressed their amazement.
"Ohh my heart. The best of friends. So glad he has a little buddy to keep him company. Wish more places let seniors have animals," one viewer wrote.
"This makes me happy and gives me hope," a second viewer said, while someone else wrote: "I wanna be like them when I grow up."
"Never seen anything so sweet, so happy he can have cat at facility. They need each other so much. Sweet baby and lovely animal lover," another viewer said.
A fifth person added: "It why’s he’s so vital at 93. Walking and companionship. How blessed you are to have him in your life."
